LAWN RAGE II – Someone’s Cutting Our Grass!

Image
Global Warming and Biodiversity Decline are existential threats facing Humankind and all life on earth. The survival of current and future generations of Homo Sapiens hinges on people changing traditional ways of thinking and living. However, resistance to change is endemic at every level in international, national, provincial, regional and local organizations. LAWN RAGE II – Someone’s Cutting Our Grass! Is a chilling illustration of how outdated and illegal municipal by-laws discourage wildlife- and pollinator-friendly habitat creation to accommodate "Anonymous" Neighbours’ aesthetic sensibilities. Bike Bridge NIMBYs - Censorship

Image
Below are a couple of screen grabs that illustrate the extent to which the OHHA Facebook Group "Administrators" continue to censor information regarding the Orchard Heights Park Bridge project cancelled by Councillor Dasko in 2021 ... While Councillor Dasko's self-promoting posts and photo-ops are accorded the same unrestricted FB Page real estate as other pressing Orchard Heights issues like Speeding Cars and Trucks, Speed Bumps, Slow Street Pylons, Suspicious Persons and Vehicles, Coyote and Fox sightings, Lost Pets, Lost & Found items, etc., information pertaining to the issue of a 5-years-and-counting deprivation (since Mississauga Council's OH Bridge approval in 2018) of CONNECTED, CONVENIENT, COMFORTABLE and SAFE foot/bike access to the Etobicoke Creek Trail network for commuters, kids, families, fitness buffs and the elderly who want to Walk, Run, Bike and Roll in a car-free natural environment is censored ... New Polling Data on Cycling in Ontario

68% of Ontarians Cycling Occasionally While 3.2 Million Ontarians (22%) Are Daily Cyclists HELLO, Mayor Crombie and Councillor Dasko ??? ... What's with the inordinate delays in fulfilling the much-hyped City of Mississauga’s Pedestrian, Cycling and Active Transportation Master Plans promising CONNECTED, CONVENIENT, COMFORTABLE and SAFE Walking, Biking and Rolling infrastructure for people of all ages and walks of life in our Lakeview-Mississauga community, like the 2010-planned, 2018-approved, designed and 2019 scheduled Bridge connecting Orchard Heights Park to the Etobicoke Creek Trail ??? ... (HAMILTON – May 1, 2023) – The Share the Road Cycling Coalition (The Coalition) Ontario’s cycling advocacy and policy organization today released province-wide polling data at the opening of the 15th annual Ontario Bike Summit. The data outlines that there is a high prevalence of cycling amongst Ontarians, that the majority of Ontarians want to cycle more often, and that increased inve

You Get What You Voted For - Lakeview Village & Doug Ford's MZO

Image
"Furious Mississauga councillors lament MZO that ‘detonated’ years of planning" https://globalnews.ca/news/9700656/mississauga-lakeview-village-mzo-council-public-comments Sad, but Councillor Dasko's "disappointment" at Doug Ford's bait-and-switch maneuver is not a little ironic given that, contrary to pre-election promises, Councillor Dasko himself issued the same DIKTAT by single-handedly "with the stroke of a pen" cancelling the City of Mississauga's 2010-2018 planned, approved, financed and 2019 scheduled OH Park Foot-Bike Bridge construction based on the OHHA Board's sham 2021 "Survey" which was staged AFTER the results of TWO previous surveys conducted by the City of Mississauga and Councillor Dasko himself showed a majority IN FAVOUR of the CONNECTED, CONVENIENT, COMFORTABLE and SAFE OH Park Foot-Bike Bridge to Etobicoke Creek Trail promised in the City of Mississauga Cycling and Pedestrian Master Plans ... DEAD END - NO EXIT - Orchard Heights Park

Ongoing actions by  Orchard Heights NIMBYs  to block the 2018 approved and 2019 scheduled Orchard Heights Park Foot/Bike Bridge from being built include censoring related information posted to the OHHA Facebook Group pages and vandalizing information flyers posted in local public places like Ron Searle Park and Orchard Heights Park. DEAD END - NO EXIT Orchard Heights Park DEAD END - NO EXIT - OH PARK Bridge Flyer Vandalized by ??? Meanwhile, instead of featuring a shared pathway and bridge for Lakeview-Mississauga Walkers, Runners, Bikers and Rollers to access the beautiful Etobicoke Creek Trail connecting to Marie Curtis Park, Lake Ontario and the Waterfront Trail as part of  the CONNECTED, CONVENIENT, COMFORTABLE and SAFE pedestrian/cyclist infrastructure approved in the City of Mississauga's Active Transportation Master Plan, " DEAD END - NO EXIT" Orchard Heights Park continues to be the "private" domain of anonymous Dog Walkers, Car Parkers, Picnickers, Tail

BIKE THE CREEK

Image
BIKE THE CREEK Wonderful, that the Region of Peel together with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority is promoting "Bike the Creek" along the beautiful Etobicoke Creek Trail which, upon completion, will stretch some 50km from Marie Curtis Park on Lake Ontario to Caledon on the Niagara Escarpment Biosphere !!! In the meantime, hopefully, the Region of Peel together with the TRCA will use their good offices to convince the City of Mississauga to finally build the 2018 Council approved, financed, planned and originally scheduled for completion in November 2019 Orchard Heights Park Foot-Bike Bridge connecting to the Etobicoke Creek Trail, thereby providing South East Mississauga Lakeview residents of all ages and walks of life the promised Connected, Convenient, Comfortable and Safe Active Transportation options advertised and promoted in the City of Mississauga's 2010-2018 Cycling, Pedestrian and Active Transportation Master Plans ... It is a travesty that tax-paying

LAWN RAGE - a Case for Change

Image
In 1996, the Ontario Court of Justice ruled municipal Tall Grass and Weeds By-Laws to be void, invalid, unenforceable and in contravention of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms which guarantees Freedom of Expression [Ref. Bell v. Toronto (City)]. Yet, the City of Mississauga Council "deems tall grass and weeds to be a public nuisance" and continues to enforce its Nuisance Weeds and Tall Grass Control By-Law 125-2017 on homeowner private property based solely on "Anonymous Neighbour Complaints". As Canada's 29th "Bee City”, Mississauga’s stated commitment “to support pollinators and their habitats” and advising homeowners that, "By planting pollinator friendly plants in your garden you can help enhance habitat for insects that pollinate wildflowers and food crops", is self-contradictory virtue signaling when the City's Enforcement Division cites homeowners under By-Law 125-2017 for the wildlife-friendly tall grass and weeds growing on
