How Stephen Dasko Lost My Vote For Ward 1 Councillor, Let Alone for Mayor of Mississauga

As Mississaugans prepare to cast their ballots in tomorrow’s too-close-to-call Mayoral Election, here are some points to ponder:
1. In 2021, Councillor Dasko turned 180 degrees back on his 2018 pre-election promise to follow-through on a key element in the City of Mississauga’s Cycling Master Plan to install a CONNECTED, CONVENIENT, COMFORTABLE and SAFE Foot-Bike Bridge connecting SE Lakeview-Mississauga to Toronto’s spectacular Etobicoke Creek Trail – a project approved by a unanimous Council vote in 2018, financed and scheduled for construction in 2019.
2. While Councillor Dasko rightly criticized Doug Ford’s dictatorial “with the stroke of the pen” Ministerial Zoning Order (MZO) issued for developments planned and under construction in Lakeview-Mississauga, Stephen Dasko himself stopped the work-in-progress Orchard Heights Park Foot-Bike Bridge by a single email to Mississauga Parks Management Staff - a dictatorial move in all but name – which caters to a minority of Orchard Heights NIMBYs in blatant violation of the City of Mississauga’s governance policy mandating a vote to overturn Council’s 2018 unanimous project approval.
3. Ever the consummate politician, Councillor Dasko is renowned for making himself available for any and all photo-ops, sincerely telling voters what they want to hear, and always bearing in mind the number of potential voters required to win his next election.
4. Given Councillor Dasko’s total radio silence since single-handedly stopping the OHP Foot-Bike Bridge installation - while ignoring the almost 500 signatories to an on-going petition to get the bridge built - it is clear that Councillor Dasko is MIA (Missing In Action) when it comes to serving the interests of a majority of people of all ages and walks of life who have waited decades to reap and enjoy the promised health, fitness and quality of life benefits promised in Mississauga’s Active Transportation Plan.
5. Similarly, Councillor Dasko can’t be counted on to respond to individual requests for assistance if your case is backed by a minority of voters, even when it involves your rights guaranteed under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
