Get to Know your Neighbourhood by Bike with a Self-Guided Community Ride

Join your neighbours on Sundays in October & November to bike along slow-traffic residential streets, the Etobicoke Creek Trail, the Waterfront Trail and into Port Credit.

These community rides provide participants with an opportunity to enjoy refreshing bike rides through tall White Pines and Hemlocks along the Etobicoke Creek Trail and along scenic Lake Ontario’s Waterfront Trail while experiencing the splendor of Fall colours!

Whether you are new to cycling or have been riding for a while, the suggested routes include options for everyone to explore and enjoy, including Orchard Heights Park, Marie Curtis Park, JD Saddington Park and more.

START, FINISH and MEET UP with neighbours, friends and family or ride solo anywhere along your chosen route (See ~5km – Google Map ~10km – Google Map ~20km – Google Map).

Note: The Orchard Heights Park route is suggested for adventuresome riders willing and able to ride or wade across the Etobicoke Creek spillway (provided water levels safely permit) and scale the ~6-foot retaining wall to get onto the Etobicoke Creek Trail (see Walk-Run-Bike the Etobicoke Creek Trail). A suitable riding buddy for safety and assistance is recommended.

Be aware that water level rises after every rain and levels over one-two inches make for unsafe crossing of the spillway. In this case, riding the route in reverse via Dixie-Lakeshore to Marie Curtis Park also provides access up the Etobicoke Creek Trail.

SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE

Riders are encouraged to record their experiences by taking photos/videos and sharing them on social media along with information and maps generated by tracking apps like Strava, MapMyRide, Bikemap, Google Maps, etc. for the benefit of non-participating community members.  Click to join Orchard Heights Walk Run Bike & Roll FB Group to share your rides there.

Afterwards, take a few minutes to submit the OrchardHeights Community Rides Questionnaire and register your feedback on Mississauga’s Cycling infrastructure.

IMPORTANT REMINDER

For the safety of all road and trail users, cyclists are reminded to follow the rules of the road, be courteous to other trail users and obey all shared trail etiquette. By law, helmets must be worn by cyclists under the age 18. However everyone is encouraged to wear a helmet when riding their bike.

When exercising outdoors, participants are advised to follow COVID-19 guidelines by staying at least two metres (six feet) from those not in their household and wearing a mask when physical distancing cannot be maintained, even when outdoors.
