Orchard Heights Community Fall Colours Ride - October 24, 2021

This Orchard Heights Community Fall Colours Ride was recorded Sunday afternoon on October 24, 2021 along slow-traffic residential streets, the Waterfront Trail and up the Etobicoke Creek Trail. Return trip: ~15kms

With the Orchard Heights Park Spillway Crossing water level deemed marginally unsafe due to recent rains and the Dixie Road RR underpass currently under construction reducing cyclist "safe" options to the west sidewalk through the work zone, this route is a "long-way-around" detour for Orchard Heights residents to access Marie Curtis Park and the Waterfront and Etobicoke Creek Trails.

The route provides an opportunity to enjoy refreshing bike rides, runs and walks through tall White Pines and Hemlocks along the Etobicoke Creek Trail and Lake Ontario’s scenic Waterfront Trail with options for people of all ages and walks of life to explore and enjoy Orchard Heights Park, Lakeshore Park, Marie Curtis Park and Etobicoke Valley Park playgrounds and sport fields.

Note: The Orchard Heights Park route is suggested for adventuresome riders willing and able to ride or wade the Etobicoke Creek Spillway Crossing (provided water levels safely permit) and scale the ~6-foot retaining wall to get onto the Etobicoke Creek Trail. A suitable riding buddy for safety and assistance is recommended.

Be aware that water level rises after every rain and levels over one-two inches make for unsafe crossing of the spillway. In this case, riding the route in reverse via Dixie-Lakeshore to Marie Curtis Park also provides access up the Etobicoke Creek Trail.
