Orchard Heights Community Fall Colours Ride - November 7, 2021

Sunday, November 7th was probably the peak of this year's Fall Colours to enjoy, given the subsequent days of rain and wind which stripped much of the foliage.
In case you missed this Orchard Heights Community Fall Colours Ride, the video captures the essence of a beautiful time of year to enjoy walking, running, biking and rolling along the scenic trails virtually at the doorstep of every Orchard Heights resident.
Lots of kids, families, young and older folks were out in the fresh air walking, running, biking and rolling along the network of slow traffic residential streets connected with Marie Curtis Park and the Waterfront and Etobicoke Creek trails.
Starting from Orchard Heights, the route led down Dixie Road to Marie Curtis Park and followed the Waterfront Trail eastbound to Col. Samuel Smith Park with its expansive views from the man-made peninsula jutting out into Lake Ontario .
The return leg included a side spur up the Etobicoke Creek Trail through tall Pines, Maples and Hemlocks, turn-around at the QEW (trail closed until June, 2022 due to ongoing bridge renovation work), back southbound to Marie Curtis Park and west along the Waterfront Trail to Haig Blvd., Dixie Mall and Orchard Heights.
Return trip: ~ 22kms
CAUTION:
Accessing the Waterfront Trail, Marie Curtis Park and Etobicoke Creek Trail via the Dixie Road bike lanes is not for the faint-of-heart currently on account of ongoing railway bridge underpass construction which has reduced N/S traffic to single lanes without bike lanes. Dixie Road is definitely NOT SAFE for cyclists, let alone families with young children on bikes!
Alternatively, use the west sidewalk, or take the long way around by cutting through the back of Dixie Mall to Myron Drive and Haig Blvd.
