OH Park Foot-Bike Bridge - Mississauga City Council Ward 1 All Candidates Meeting

The Dasko, Gassman & Goss Mississauga City Council Ward 1 All Candidates Meeting at Applewood United Church on October 17th, revealed more information on the status of the long-delayed Orchard Heights Park Foot-Bike Bridge which was originally scheduled for installation in November, 2019.
In addressing the issue, Councillor Dasko confirmed that he stopped this 2018 approved, financed and scheduled component of the City of Mississauga’s Cycling Master Plan based on “traffic and security” concerns voiced by Orchard Heights Residents, as reflected in the Orchard Heights Homeowners Association “Survey and Report” of July, 2021.

The “traffic” concerns related to the proposed Plan Dixie development and the “security” concerns were posed by pedestrians and cyclists from Alderwood coming across Etobicoke Creek into, and passing through, Orchard Heights, thereby disturbing the “peace and quiet” of the community.

In deciding to stop this key component of the City of Mississauga’s promised “Connected, Convenient, Comfortable and Safe” Active Transportation infrastructure, Councillor Dasko relied on the flawed and misleading OHHA Survey Report, while studiously neglecting copious information provided on an ongoing basis, which contradicts the Survey’s validity and results.

Councillor Dasko’s failure to exercise due diligence in rationally evaluating the OHHA’s “traffic and security” concerns, and fairly assessing the validity of the OHHA Survey Report, has deprived residents in Orchard Heights and SE Mississauga Lakeview of “Connected, Convenient, Comfortable and Safe” alternatives to using busy Dixie Road on foot, on their bikes and in their cars, to access the critical East-West Lakeshore transit, park and greenway networks.

VOTE on October 24th.
